I don’t have a specific goal weight in mind– I want to get to a healthy BMI (around 170 lbs) and see how I feel, and make adjustments from there. Ideally I’d end up in the 150ish range.

I’m a graduate student. No, I don’t know when I’ll finish. No, I don’t know what I’m doing after. I am an American– a Southerner by birth– currently living in the part of the Midwest that the Psalmist referenced when he said, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of meth, I shall fear no evil.”
I have no scientific or medical expertise. While my field has historically been called “regina scientiarum” (the queen of sciences) I am not a chemist, a biologist, a dietitian, or any kind of medical expert or practitioner. I am just sharing my own journey–finding out by trial and error what works and doesn’t work for me– and what works for me may not work for you. I’m not trying to give you medical advice, nor am I qualified to do so. I'm just a fat girl trying her best to become a former fat girl.
I’m a vegetarian for ethical reasons that have nothing to do with my health or weight loss. I don’t eat meat, gelatin, or anything cooked in animal broth, fat, or stock. I am not a vegan, so I do eat dairy, eggs, and honey.
I’m Catholic. That means sometimes I will abstain from certain foods or fast altogether (especially during the season of Lent) for reasons not related to weight loss. I will be sure to let you know when that’s the case, especially when I’m doing something that wouldn’t be healthy or sustainable long-term or as a weight-loss practice.
I have autism, ARFID, and severe executive dysfunction. This limits both what I can eat and the amount of effort and energy I am able to put into preparing it. You will notice a lot of processed and “convenience” foods in my diet. That is by necessity.
What am I doing to lose weight? Well, the short answer is intermittent fasting. Before 3 PM each day, I strive to ingest zero calories and drink a gallon of plain, unflavored water, and my eating window is from 3 PM to 7 PM. I will adjust this as needed, and reserve the right to have the occasional off-plan day. I’m also weighing in daily and checking in with this blog every day for accountability. (That’s where you come in!)

This is a weight loss blog, and I am on a mission to be healthy at a healthy size. I am not going to use PC language or tap dance around the realities of obesity. If that is going to offend you, you might be in the wrong place.
I try to avoid language that labels food as “good” or “bad” or otherwise attaches moral weight to food based on its caloric or nutritional density. I don’t use the term “cheat day,” either. As dietician Abbey Sharp is fond of saying, “Unless you stole it from a baby, all food is guilt-free.”
We keep it kind here. While I will not mince words when talking about the realities of obesity and the danger to my health that my weight poses, I am not here to body-shame myself or anyone else. In the same vein, I expect kindness and civility in the comments section, whether you're talking about weight or anything else, and I reserve the right to delete comments that are uncharitable.

Hi, everyone!
It's already 10 PM, so today is going to be more of a check-in than a post. I don't have much to say-- today was pretty uneventful-- but it wasn't a bad day. I'm just tired. I'm also pretty emotional-- Clue App says Shark Week is imminent-- and I just want to get to bed. I'll have more to say tomorrow.
